I would like to take a moment to reflect on my first year in business and express my utmost appreciation for the trust and partnership you have extended to me. It is truly an honour that you have chosen to support my company, and I value our continued collaboration. Although there is much I would like to share, I am limited by time, space, and attention. As the founder, I wear many hats, including completely new ones like marketing and communications. So, I hope you don't mind if I break the rules a little and extend my deepest gratitude.


I must take a moment in gratefulness for the first and current clients. Your commitment to equitable procurement and projects is truly commendable. As a small business, Portcullis Modern is agile and adaptable to new standards and technologies, enabling us to provide faster and more cost-effective solutions. Each project I undertake is meaningful, and I respect clients as valued partners, not just a number. Our projects enable us to put food on the table, pay our bills, take care of our valued subcontractors, and invest in the business in ways that benefit your teams directly.

Some history...

What many people don’t know is that before I entered the security industry in 2008, I worked in tech and electrical, starting out at technical call centres for telecom and computers in Halifax before returning to college and obtaining an Industrial Electrical Diploma.


My passion for technology and controls eventually led me to Calgary, where I worked in systems integration. I gained extensive hands-on experience in building automation and integrated systems before deep diving into security through physical and logical access control, mobile access, secure issuance, biometrics, and custom SDK API integrations.


Through hard work and dedication, I've had the opportunity to work with leading clients, security integrators, consultants, and manufacturers, which has shaped my extraordinary experience. In 2018, I advanced to security director at a multinational engineering firm, and in 2021, migrated east to Ottawa, where I currently reside. In January 2023, I founded Portcullis Modern Inc. to make my technical expertise, strategic proficiency, and sharp eye for detail more accessible to clients.


With twenty years in STEM, and the only security professional triple board-certified in security management, cybersecurity and change management, I developed SOCM, exclusively for security professionals and their teams. Our industry is continuously evolving due to various reasons such as mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, threat advancements, and technical innovations. However, our industry struggles with change itself. When I started my career, I was often the only woman in the room, and even today, often I am. Although we have made some progress, we still have a long way to go before we can overcome the 'old boys club' mentality and the 'mall cop' persona and shape our lucrative industry into desirable career objectives. I don't just want to see women and minorities with parity; I want it to be the norm without surprise.


Looking Back

Portcullis Modern has achieved great success. We have persevered through commitment, receptivity, and belief in providing betterment to our customers. Entrepreneurship is not easy, and at times it can certainly be nerve-wracking. Beyond the projects, I am thrilled to share with you our 2023 Timeline of Achievements:
